In early July, the Koko-Yassin family will be the proud owners of a new 1.44kW solar power system on their brand new home which will be donated by Solar Shop Australia.
Originally from Sudan, the family of nine now have a decent and affordable home through Habitat for Humanity Australia’s build program.
Habitat for Humanity is an International not-for-profit which offers a hand-up to low-income families who are not able to enter the housing market otherwise. Families are offered a low interest loan and volunteers help with planning and construction of the home. The family gives 500 hours ‘sweat-equity’ and repays the loan at low interest – their loan is then passed on to another family.
Solar Shop Australia is proud to support Habitat for Humanity Australia, and more importantly help free their partner families from the pressues that electricity bills can have on Australian families. The Koko-Yassin family will now have a system which will reduce their annual power bill by more than $1200, thanks to the NSW feed-in-tariff.
“We are pleased to be able to help Habitat for Humanity and their partner families reduce their reliance on coal fired power stations,” said Adrian Ferraretto, Managing Director of Solar Shop Australia. “Once installed the system will give the Koko-Yassin family more money to spend on themselves, rather than paying for electricity.”
