How much do solar panels cost?

How much do solar panels cost? In short,  there is no "one size fits all" answer. Because each of our customers have different energy needs, each solar power system we design has different requirements, and therefore, a different price.

You may want a solar power system to cover the cost of your current electricity bill, or you may want a system that covers your electricity bill and then some, providing you with the ability to make a profit. You may require a high capacity inverter, which allows you to upgrade your system and add more panels in the future. All of these elements can easily be determined by having a consultation with one of our consultants, who can provide you with a quote for a custom designed, tailored solar system that suits your needs.

Which system solar power system should I buy?

Most commonly people install systems between 1,500 - 2,000 kW. These systems will power the entirety of most energy efficient households. Many of Solar Shop Australia's customers find that they are able to reduce energy consumption by 30-50% with some simple efficiency measures and the remainder of power needed is then produced by the solar system.

Can my solar system account for all of my electricity consumption?

Absolutely, however, the ability for your system to do so will depend on (a) system size, (b) how you use power in your home during the day (the less you use the more is exported into the grid at a premium) and (c) the feed in tariff rate in your state.

Does my electricity bill get credited?

Yes it does. Some electricity retailers pay the same amount or more for the for the electricity that your system feed back into the main electricity grid as they charge you for regular electricity

Will my solar power system still work in a blackout?

If the main electricity grid goes out and there's a blackout, your solar power system is designed to automatically shut down too. The electricity supply authority requires that your system is isolated from the grid for safety reasons when the grid is down. However, optional batteries and inverter can be installed to back up your system, so that power is available even when the grid fails. In the event of a blackout, the backup unit seamlessly continues to supply power to the house without interruption. The cost of a battery backed system is typically around $15,000 above a grid connect only system.

How much maintenance does a solar power system require?

Apart from keeping your panels clean, a solar power system will require little to no maintenance.
