How do I turn my solar power system on or off?

To turn your grid connect solar power system ON:

Switch ON in the sequence: 1, 2, 3. Do not wait too long between switching 2 and 3; otherwise the inverter will perceive this as a fault condition.

After the system is switched ON, the inverter will run through a testing and initializing process.  It will begin correct operation when the green “Operation” indicator lights up, located on its front panel.

Confirm correct GCS system operation by reading the generated voltage and power values from the inverter’s LCD user menu, located on the front panel of the SMA Sunny Boy inverter.

To turn your grid connect solar power system OFF:

Switch ON in the sequence: 1, 2, 3. Do not wait too long between switching 2 and 3; otherwise the inverter will perceive this as a fault condition.

The yellow light on my inverter is flashing- what do I do?

When the yellow light on your inverter is flashing, follow the shut down procedure to switch your system off and then follow the start up procedure to turn your system back on. If your system is still not working after restarting, turn your system off and Solar Shop will arrange for an electrician will inspect your system.

For instructions on how to restart your system, please see How do I turn my system on or off?

My system seems like it's under performing- what should I do?

If your system appears to be under performing, keep a log of inverter readings of the following metrics (and the date and time of the reading):

  1. PAC (Power AC, Power alternating current) measured in kW
  2. E-Total (Energy generated since inverter was initially commissioned) measured in kWh
  3. E-Today (Energy generated at specific time of 1 day) measured in kWh

Once you have recorded these details for several days, you can provide Solar Shop with the data and we will assess your system's performance.

Please note: If you are having system issues during the 09/10 holiday period of 25/12/09 - 10/01/10, SSA operations will be closed during this period and will reopen on 11/01/09. If you are still experiencing system problems at this time, we are happy to send someone to your property to ensure that your system is functioning correctly.
