February 2007:
Reva all-electric car granted a one year import licence extension
 The
original term of import for the Reva has been extended by the federal
Department of Transport and Regional Services (DoTARS) until February
2008. The extension has been granted on the proviso that the vehicle is
crash tested to determine its compliance with Australian Design
regulations. Without the extension the car was to be ‘exported or
destroyed.’
Since we first purchased our delightful little Reva
in October 05, a generous Australian media has taken its story out to
millions of curious Australians – and they seem to have fallen in love
with the vehicle. And so they should: the Reva is an extraordinary
symbol of a better, cleaner future. Designed for city or town motoring
only, with no emissions and a range of 100 km on a full charge, the
Reva costs about 60 cents to fully charge over a six-hour period.
Approximately
1000 Revas are already on city roads in the UK where they have been
classified as heavy quadricycles. There are no plans at this point to
replicate the category in Australia.
