Some government rebates are national and others are
state based.
At Solar
Shop Australia, we make it easy for you. We do all the paperwork for you and
whenever possible, take the rebate amount off your invoice so you only need to
pay the after rebate amount.
Of course, each
rebate has an eligibility criteria to watch out for so give us a call if you
have any questions.
Below are the most
common rebates we deal with:
Solar
electricity panel rebate (national) The Photovoltaic Rebate Program (PVRP) is national
program and is accessible to all Australian home owners. It is available for
both grid connect solar systems and remote area power systems when installed on
your primary place of residence.
The rebate is based
on the peak photovoltaic output on a system and is calculated at
$8/Watt.
The minimum system
size is 450 Watt and the maximum is 1000 Watt. Hence the maximum rebate is
$8,000.
In addition to the
PVRP rebate, Renewable Energy Certificates for an initial fifteen year period
can be claimed up front.
Renewable
energy certificates (national) Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) are another
stream of funding available for solar hot water, wind turbines and solar
panels.
The bigger the
renewable energy installation, the bigger the REC's is.
One REC symbolises
1MWh of electricity sourced from renewable energy. This generally represents one
Tonne of abated greenhouse gas. One REC is like a "carbon credit".
We usually take the
RECs amount off the invoice price whenever we install a solar hot water, grid
connect solar or stand alone power systems for you.
The value of one REC
changes on a daily basis. Over the last few years, it has been anywhere between
$6 and $36 for one REC.
Remote
power rebate (national)
The Remote Renewable Power Generation Program
(RRPGP) provides rebates for the installation of remote power systems used
instead of fossil fuel generation in off-grid areas of WA.
Rebates of 50% of the capital cost of eligible
equipment and services are available, including:
• Renewable
energy generating equipment such as photovoltaic arrays and wind
turbines •
Other parts of the installation such as
inverters, batteries and battery chargers • The design
and installation of the system
Rebates are
available for complete systems and for additions to existing systems.
The maximum rebate available under the RRPGP is
$200,000.
Grid
connect rebate for fringe of grid - western australia
only
The Rural Renewable Energy Program provides a
50% (ex GST) rebate for grid connect solar systems in specific 'fringe of grid'
areas of the South West electricity grid or Western Australia.
For renewable energy power systems with a rated
capacity of between 500W and 30kW, the program provides rebates of 50% of the
capital cost of eligible systems, up to a maximum of $150,000.
Eligible equipment and services for a 50% rebate
are:
•
Renewable energy generating equipment
such as photovoltaic arrays and wind turbines •,Other parts
of the installation such as inverters, batteries and battery chargers • The design
and installation of the system

Retrofit kits are eligible for a rebate when attached
to an existing conventional electric water heater, if the existing hot water
system is covered by warranty for at least another three years.
A two panel solar
hot water system attracts a $700 rebate and a single panel system or a retro fit
kit attracts $500.
In addition to the government rebate, Renewable
Energy Certificates for the life of the solar hot water system can be claimed up
front.
For a two panel solar hot water system, this
currently equates to around $1,000 dependent on the geographical location of the
water heater.
