Incentives make solar power more affordable in NSW than ever before

Installing solar panels is one of the many New Year’s resolutions that New South Wales residents are making as a result of the state Government’s generous feed-in tariff which came in to effect on January 1.

The tariff gives owners of a solar power system 60 cents for every unit of electricity generated, making solar power more affordable than ever before.

Solar Shop Australia managing director, Adrian Ferraretto, said that it great to see the increased interest for renewable energy from all sectors of the community.

“Now is the perfect time to install solar power, as consumers can access rebates from the Federal Government to reduce the upfront cost, and the introduction of the feed-in tariff means a system will pay for itself in around five years,’ Adrian said.

“Also, the introduction of the tariff makes solar panels affordable for more people than ever before.

“Solar Shop Australia now offers a finance package that sees consumers pay a modest deposit and then pay a combined solar power and electricity bill which replaces their existing electricity costs,” he said.

With the implementation of the scheme earlier this month there has been reported confusion on its long term sustainability and benefits.

“New South Wales’ scheme is a great step in the right direction and does make solar power an attractive proposition for everyone, however, it needs to have a longer life at an appropriate price to make it more sustainable and equitable for the community and the industry,” Adrian said.

“The bigger issue is that there are six different feed-in tariffs across Australia which causes a lot of confusion for everyone.

“It’s time that to get rid of this confusion and have an appropriately priced National gross feed-in tariff legislated for the next 20 years.

“This would enable clarity for consumers and the industry and make Australia the solar powerhouse it was back in the 1990’s,” he said.
