Grid connect solar power: Solar power your home

A grid connect solar power system acts as a mini power station for your home, feeding power to your home and sending surplus power back to the electricity grid. When surplus power is fed back to the grid, your energy retailer credits your account - with the potential to substantially reduce or eliminate your power bill.

The amount of credit you receive for surplus power depends on which energy retailer you get your power from and the legislation regarding Feed in Tariffs in your state. You may also be eligible for a solar rebate or other incentives offered by the Australian government that will help to offset the initial cost of the system.

How does a grid connect solar power system work?

number1 Solar panels convert sunlight into DC electricity.
A grid connect inverter transforms DC electricity into regular 240 Volt power.
number3 A meter records the amount of electricity generated by solar panels.

Choosing the right solar power system for your home

There are several important factors to consider when determining which solar power system size and type of solar panel will best suit your needs. To begin with, it's useful to calculate your current energy usage, which can be done easily by reviewing your quarterly electricity bill. By understanding how much power you currently use, our consultants are able to recommend what size system will reduce or eliminate your power bill.

Use our solar calculator to calculate the system size that may best suit your energy needs. Additionally, the size and orientation of your roof impacts the number and type of panels that will work best for you. For a detailed comparison of the different types of panels available through Solar Shop Australia, review our Solar Panels Technology page.

How much does a solar power system cost?

With solar power systems, there is no "one size fits all" solution. Because each of our customers have different energy needs, each solar power system we design has different requirements, and therefore, a different price.
